Radiant Floor Heating (UFH) Design Software: 5 New Features In h2x
New features from h2x enable simplified, fast radiant floor (underfloor) heating design with custom flexibility.
Radiant floor (underfloor) heating systems, long appreciated by engineers as a thermodynamically superior heating option, present specific design challenges that can stymie projects of all sizes. h2x software – a unified design solution created by engineers, for engineers, – has solved these issues and more with its comprehensive design platform, now further enhanced with five new, best-in-class features for radiant floor heating design.
Radiant Floor (Underfloor) Heating Challenges
When designing a radiant floor heating system, engineers must work within several constraints, including the following:
- All transit pipes must be routed back to the manifold, which must be optimally located to allow for efficient routes.
- Loops have a maximum allowable length that must not be exceeded, no matter the size or shape of the space.
- Architects and clients sometimes prefer there to be unheated spots or gaps between the wall and the loops.
- Engineers must comply with regulatory requirements issued by firms including CIBSE and ASHRAE.
Engineers have traditionally designed underfloor heating systems manually, including the use of spreadsheets to manage manual calculations. This creates a workflow which only compounds the above constraints with its slowness and relatively high probability of error.
What’s New in the March 2026 h2x Release
h2x was already acclaimed as being best-in-class with its “one-click” calculation tools helping engineers work 50% faster and complete accurate, transparent calculations that meet all code requirements automatically. On March 26th, 2026, h2x announced major enhancements to its underfloor heating design capabilities. Through the incorporation of AI, h2x users now have more control over the design layout, and access to features that specifically address the above design constraints in seconds.
The following features – including smart design warnings, transit pipe route selection, automated loop splitting, custom wall offset control, and 3D view mode – are a major enhancement over existing legacy platforms. Review each feature below and download our NEW Radiant Floor Heating one-pager to learn more.
Smart Design Warnings for Radiant Floor Heating Layouts
With one-click calculations, engineers have a faster and more accurate way to design code-compliant radiant floor (underfloor) heating systems. However, errors can still occur and slow down the design workflow, particularly when engineers have to dedicate time to finding a “fix.” h2x pairs advanced automation capabilities with smart design warnings that go beyond merely flagging errors – such as loop coverage failures or blocked transit pipe paths – to offer actionable fix recommendations. The goal is to catch errors before they become rework for engineers, and to offer reliable solutions that help jumpstart the troubleshooting process.
Users now receive a warning in h2x software if loops failed to cover the room with recommendations to fix it.
Transit Pipe Route Selection for Faster UFH Design
Traditional radiant floor heating design methods involve manually configuring transit pipes and routing them between the manifold and each loop, a process that involves a considerable amount of decision making and can stall the design workflow. h2x now automatically routes transit pipes from manifold to loop, even across rooms, and allows engineers to select from multiple route options or adjust entry positions quickly and with engineering-grade accuracy.
Users in h2x now have the ability to position transit pipes at the top/left, center or bottom/right of room entries.
Automated Loop Splitting
Underfloor heating system designers must always contend with code limits on loop lengths and design systems that do not exceed maximum loop length limits. These code guidelines have traditionally been kept track of manually, requiring vigilance and several accuracy checks throughout the design process and increasing the possibility of accidentally exceeding the maximum loop length. With h2x’s new automated loop splitting feature, one click will instantly partition any space – no matter how large or complex – into balanced, code-compliant loops. The click-and-drag functionality allows designers to adjust where the loops are partitioned, to suit other design requirements.
The original design shows a warning that the max loop length is exceeded. However, once the “partition” button is clicked in h2x, the original room heated area is partitioned.
Custom Wall Offset Control
Automation tools are handy, but their usefulness is limited if they can’t accommodate specific design decisions and preferences that require a more custom approach. When designing a radiant floor heating system, it sometimes is necessary or preferable to include a wall offset where no heating pipes should be placed. h2x’s new custom wall offset controls allow you to set uniform or per-side wall gaps with precision inputs, either throughout a space or on specific, individual sides, and for any room geometry. Having this flexibility lets you tailor the design process to your requirements while delivering real-time, engineering-grade calculations with just one click.

3D View Mode for Clearer Underfloor Heating Design
One of the best ways to enhance your underfloor heating design process is to see the design in three dimensions. Selecting “3D View Mode” in h2x will show you an isometric projection of your design that you can rotate and explore with just a click of your mouse. Adding a new type of project conception to your workflow can help you better identify clashes that may not be readily apparent in 2D. Additionally, 3D models are typically easier for non-engineers to digest and understand, as the 2D rendering doesn’t fully convey the shape of the space. h2x allows you to produce professional bid documentation, including attractive and easy-to-understand 3D models, with your branding. This can improve your client presentations and many clients will appreciate receiving a professional-grade document illustrating your designs.
