We use the International Fuel Gas Code Equation for our gas calculations:

The formula works by you choosing the starting and ending pressures and then sizing the pipe not to exceed that pressure difference.

This means you don't know the pressure at various pipe sections, although you could 'guesstimate' e.g. halfway through the system would likely have encountered half of the pressure drop.

This formula is different to water systems, where you have a starting pressure and then use the Darcy Weisbach formula to calculate the pressure drop along each pipe and get a result at the end.

If you know of any industry calculations that specify the pressure drop in the gas system similar to a water system, let us know below and we can look at incorporating it!

Please Note: You can't override the gas pipe sizes in h2x because we use the International Fuel Gas Code Equation for our gas calculations. The calculation just sets an allowable pressure drop across the index run when you set the inlet pressure at your appliance, or set your downstream pressure at the regulator, and so 'pressure drop per metre' isn't factored in to this calculation either.
