The Background
Ideal Heating, part of Groupe Atlantic, is a leader in heating solutions with a growing focus on the heat pump market. As design teams took on more complex residential and commercial projects, leadership sought ways to streamline technical workflows without compromising standards.
Training Director Andrew Johnson emphasised the direction: the company needed "efficient, user-friendly design software" to remove repetitive tasks and bring consistency to design validation. Heat loss calculations, emitter sizing, and pressure loss assessments were prime candidates for improvement (work that was essential, but time-consuming).
The Challenge
Designing high-performing heating systems is traditionally detailed and labour-intensive. The effort required to produce accurate calculations and iterate with confidence can be substantial; overheads that many organisations must recoup within project contracts.
Andrew asked two of Ideal Heating's design engineers, Natalie Bamforth and Jonathan Sutton, to evaluate whether h2x could meet the company's high bar for accuracy, speed, and usability. The brief was explicit: test the platform rigorously across real scenarios and determine if it would genuinely improve the way the team works.

The Solution
h2x co-founder Jordan Mills spent three days on-site at Ideal Heating's headquarters in Hull, working side-by-side with Natalie and Jonathan. The team pushed the software across varied cases, surfacing edge conditions and "what-ifs" to probe both capability and reliability.
Jordan engaged directly with the team throughout, addressing questions on the spot and capturing a practical "to-do list" for enhancements. This collaborative approach, blending hands-on enablement with immediate feedback, stood out. As Andrew put it: "They listen, they engage and they act... I had the co-founder himself on our site for three days, demonstrating and working through our issues."
The Results
After three intensive days, the Ideal team were confident that h2x would accelerate their design validation and simplify complex steps. The platform exceeded expectations, reducing friction in core tasks and giving the team a clearer, faster path from inputs to verified outputs.
Equally important was the pace of product improvement. "h2x is developing so quickly, literally every week," Andrew noted. "Their whole ethos is to make a system that is as simple as it can be to use, I love simple." With plans to transition design engineers onto h2x, Ideal Heating sees a practical route to maintaining high, consistent standards without adding cost or delay. As Andrew summed up: "We need software and teams like h2x to make it as simple and swift as it practically can be... they're a fantastic team of engaging, energetic people, and one to watch!"
